Norman Sims

Norman Simms

It is with great sadness we report the death of Norman Sims in March 2008.  Always an active member of the group, his jovial presence and great talent will be very much missed.

By arrangement with his family, a number of Norman's paintings will be exhibited at the forthcoming exhibition.

Norman started his working life as an engineer at 14, in 1934, and in 1964, started his own business. Norman has always dabbled in drawing and painting, and despite only having a limited time at his disposal, he was accepted into the Leicester Sketch Club in 1960.

It was only after retirement, in 1986, that he began to concentrate more seriously on painting in all media. In 1988 he joined the Crown Hills Art Society and in 1995 founded the Birstall & District Art Society. and in1998, the Leicestershire Pastel Society, both of which are still flourishing.

Always seeking to develop as an artist, Norman derived great pleasure from drawing and painting out of doors as well as painting from live models at evening classes.
